The Objective was the design of a 13-space wellness center for TIERS, located in Maryland, Lagos. The brief called for an environment where medical care, psychological support, and community engagement could coexist, a space that serves diverse populations with dignity, warmth, and intention.
TIERS serves communities that often navigate healthcare and support systems that feel cold, unwelcoming, or exclusionary. The space needed to counter that, not just functionally, but emotionally. Every room had to communicate safety and belonging from the moment someone walked in, while still supporting the operational demands of a working clinic, pharmacy, therapy practice, and community hub under one roof. Balancing vibrancy with calm, and openness with privacy, across 13 distinct spaces was the central design challenge.
The design is grounded in a warm, neutral base; soft greys, sandy beige, and warm whites brought to life with deliberate pops of colour. Each space has its own accent color drawn from TIERS’ brand palette, with quote wall features that reinforce the organization’s values of equality, justice, and human rights.
The lounge and library function as a flexible community hub — collapsible workstations, movable furniture, built-in bookshelves with makeshift ladders, casual seating and high seating options ensure the space adapts to individual use, group sessions, and training as needed. The clinic is organized to serve doctor, nursing, and data functions clearly and efficiently, while the therapy offices are designed with acoustics and visual privacy as non-negotiables. The MD’s office, private offices, and operations spaces maintain a formal register without feeling disconnected from the warmth of the wider center. Outside, a landscaped seating area extends the sense of community beyond the building’s walls.
Project Cura gives TIERS a physical home that reflects what the organization stands for. Visitors arrive into a space that feels safe, considered, and human; not clinical or institutional. Staff and community members move through environments designed to support their specific needs, whether that is quiet reflection, focused work, medical care, or collective dialogue. The result is a wellness center that doesn't just house TIERS' mission, it expresses it.
